Multi-tasking...

Between the blog and facebook and email. Keeping everyone up-to-date!

All is good. Corban will be 2 weeks old tomorrow and he goes back for his two week appointment. We are going to start tomorrow evening with trying to keep him awake until about 9pm,give him a bath, feed him and then put him to bed. We are going to see if this helps him sleep longer?

Any suggestions?

Only one of mine, Aaron, slept through the night early on. He was 3 weeks old at that time. He's always been my easy going, sleeping child. He did then and now as well, eat a lot too.
Babies sleep as long as they are full. Depending on how much he will take in at once, he should sleep a few hours at a time now. Formula will keep him full longer than mom's milk. Swaddling tight could help if he still likes that.
Honestly, I think he's too young for you to expect him to sleep through the night. 3 months of age is a good time-frame for that. 3 hours of sleep at a stretch is what I would expect, even on mom's milk, at his age.
Trying to control the baby's sleep/ wake cycles at this point is often ineffective. You can place him in bed at bedtime, start that routine you want, but it takes time for them to get night vs day straight. And if he's going through a growth spurt, and later on, teething, he's gonna be hungry and wake up more often!
You are supposed to be tired! That's what having a newborn does. If I were you, I would just cherish every moment he's awake. He'll be sleeping thru the night before you know it. You can't force him to eat more than he wants.
(He doesn't need a bath everyday either. It's not good for his skin..I know Zemi would get dry skin and have eczema from too much bathing, or even just cold weather)

When they are this young and nursing...good luck! Babies do exactly what their bodies tell them to do, so until he is at least 3 months...he will do what he needs no matter what routine..although a routine will not hurt, it will just prepare him every day for what is to come next...bedtime!

Routine is a great thing, Eric! He may not start sleeping through the night for a little bit more, but start that routine!

Also, I did Babywise with all of mine and had them sleeping through the night by 7-8 weeks. It was just a matter of getting their little metabolisms scheduled! I didn't follow all the rules, but I stuck to the feeding routine of keeping them awake while eatin, then play time or awake time, then sleep. It was a bit different with SOphie since she breastfed. I would nurse her around 9pm, then she would sleep through till about 5 am... and that started around week 9 for her.

You are doing a great job! Find what works best for your family!
